Tap the light on your dash. We'll tell you what it usually means and how soon to bring it in.
Usually a sensor, emissions or ignition fault
A steady light means the car has logged a fault. It could be a loose gas cap, a tired sensor or a catalytic converter on its way out. We read the code with our diagnostic equipment and tell you what it means in plain English. If the light is flashing, that's a misfire: ease off the gas and call us.
Usually the charging system, often the alternator
The battery isn't being recharged while you drive. The car will keep running on the battery alone for a while, then stall, usually somewhere inconvenient. Get it tested this week.
Usually low brake fluid or a hydraulic problem
First make sure the parking brake is fully off. If the light stays on, the system may be low on fluid or losing pressure, and that's not one to drive around on. Brake checks are free here, so there's no reason to guess.
Usually low oil level or low oil pressure
This one means stop. Pull over when it's safe, shut the engine off and check the oil level. Driving with low oil pressure can ruin an engine in minutes.
Usually low coolant, a leak or a stuck thermostat
Pull over and let the engine cool before it overheats, and never open a hot radiator cap. Once it has cooled down, call us and we'll find out where the coolant went.
Usually a wheel speed sensor or the ABS module
Your regular brakes still work, but the anti-lock system may not step in on a wet or icy road. Worth sorting out before the rain settles in for the season.
A quick guide, not a diagnosis. We confirm what's going on and talk it through with you before any work starts.

"I googled nearest repair shop and this gem of a business got me right in."
Ali's is family owned and operated, and it's a small crew, so you'll get to know us. We'll show you what your car needs now, tell you what can wait, and treat you the way you always hoped your local shop would.

John at the front desk
"I have been taking my vehicles here for several years. Even ones that have been messed up at the dealership. Their labor rates are on par with other reputable shops but John and his crew never try and upsell me with anything I don’t need. Very reputable and honest."Jim H.

Carlos working on your vehicles
"Carlos is the best and went out of his way to help me with my Dodge vehicle repairs. He is trustworthy and truly a godsend for auto repair. Thank you so much Carlos!"Sundee R.

Pick a service to see the usual interval. Every car's a little different, so when in doubt, check your owner's manual or just ask us.
3,000 to 7,000 miles
Every 3,000 to 7,000 miles, depending on your car — check the owner's manual for the exact number. Skip it too long and you're putting the whole engine at risk, not just the oil.
Request this serviceOnce a year
Have your brakes checked once a year, or the moment you hear squeaking. Pads usually last around 50,000 miles, but city driving and hard braking can wear them out by 25,000. This isn't one to put off.
Request this serviceEvery 12,000 miles
Once a year, or every 12,000 miles. A clogged filter chokes the engine's airflow — it's a cheap fix that makes a real difference.
Request this service3 to 5 years
Three to five years is the usual lifespan. Slow starts or a dead battery on a cold morning are your cue. We can swap it out same-day at our Woodinville shop.
Request this serviceChecked every visit
Every visit, honestly — we look them over each time your car's in the bay. Plan on replacing them somewhere between 40,000 and 60,000 miles, since they crack with age whether you're driving hard or not.
Request this serviceEvery 2 to 3 years
Every 2 to 3 years under normal conditions. A pothole, a curb, new tires, or uneven tire wear can knock you out of alignment well before that — if your car starts pulling to one side, that's your sign.
30,000 to 60,000 miles
Every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Manual transmissions run 60,000–120,000 miles before major work is likely (up to 200,000 if you baby it); automatics typically go 100,000–200,000 with regular maintenance.
Request this serviceOnce a year
Once a year, or every 12,000–15,000 miles—more often than your transmission needs looking at. If the ride starts feeling off or you're hearing new noises, don't wait for the annual check. A full inspection covers shocks, struts, ball joints, bushings, control arms, and tie rod ends.
Request this serviceWe handle all of this in-house at Ali's. If anything else comes up, like a check engine light or a noise you can't place, bring it in and we'll take a look.
Also valid for veterans, active duty and senior citizens. Up to a $125 discount. One coupon per household, and it can't be combined with any other offer.
Send a request in about a minute. We'll call or email to confirm a time, and we'll work with your timeline and budget.
